{"id":1116,"name":"Lewis Biggs","url":"","description":"Lewis Biggs is Distinguished Professor of Public Art at Shanghai University (since 2011), and an independent curator (Artranspennine 1998; Aichi Triennale 2013; Folkestone Triennial 2014, 2017, 2021; Land Art Mongolia 2018).\r\nHe is also Chairman of the Institute for Public Art (www.instituteforpublicart.org) a global network of researchers concerned with place creation through culture \/ art-led urbanism, and supporting the International Award for Public Art.  \r\nHe was Curator of Exhibitions (1987-90), and then Director of Tate Liverpool (1990-2000) when he co-founded Liverpool Biennial.\r\nUnder his executive and artistic leadership 2000-2011 Liverpool Biennial focused on newly commissioned art by internationally recognised artists, much of it site-specific for the urban environment, researched collaboratively and realised by a team of locally based curators. \r\nLewis is a Trustee of the John Moores Painting Prize Trust (promoting painting through open competitions judged anonymously, in the UK and in China) and a Trustee of the International Award for Art Criticism -- IAAC.
