Kelly Baldwin Heid holds an MSc in Global Urban Health from the University of Freiburg, where she is currently completing a PhD exploring the connections between urban biodiversity and human health. As an Expert on the Biodiversity and Nature-based Solutions team at ICLEI Europe, Kelly supports cities in developing Urban Nature Plans, bridging the biodiversity-finance gap, and delivering capacity-building programmes.
She also holds an MA in Art History from Trinity College Dublin. Deeply inspired by the values of the New European Bauhaus, Kelly explores in her work and research how beauty, nature, and health intersect to shape more livable cities. This perspective informs her PhD research, which focuses on citizen stewardship of street tree beds. Bridging urban ecology and human geography, her research investigates the ecological and socio-cultural benefits of this small-scale urban greening practice.
