Ricardo Cardim

Ricardo Cardim is a botanist, landscape architect, curator, and director of Cardim Arquitetura Paisagística, one of Brazil’s leading landscape architecture firms and the first in the country to receive the International Architecture Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious honors in architecture and design. He is a specialist in Climate, Health, and Green Infrastructure within the international ATACH Expert Group (World Bank / World Health Organization / United Nations), where he also participates in the Radical Circle, an innovation committee focused on global investments in climate-resilient health systems and green infrastructure, in academic partnership with Heidelberg University, Germany. He holds a Master’s degree in Botany from the University of São Paulo (USP). He received the Muriqui Environmental Award (Individual Category) from the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve / UNESCO, as well as the Anchieta Medal and the Certificate of Gratitude of the City of São Paulo, awarded by the São Paulo City Council. He is the creator of the Pocket Forest (Floresta de Bolso), a native forest restoration technique applied in both urban and rural environments. Cardim has served as an environmental columnist for Rede Globo TV São Paulo (2013–2014), Estadão Radio (2011–2018), Eldorado FM Radio (2024–2026), and currently contributes to Cultura TV São Paulo. He has curated exhibitions at the Museu da Casa Brasileira (MCB) and the Museu Brasileiro da Escultura e Ecologia (MuBE), where he also serves on the Environmental Council. As an artist, he exhibited an oil painting at SP-Arte, Latin America’s leading art fair. He is the author of two books published by Olhares Publishers: Atlantic Forest Remnants: The Great Trees of the Original Forest and Their Vestiges (2018; revised edition, 2024), a finalist for Brazil’s Jabuti Prize in the Science category, and Sustainable Landscaping for Brazil (2022). In 2024, he delivered a lecture on environmental issues to the Brazilian Presidential Council. He currently serves on the São Paulo Municipal Climate Change Commission.
