Richard Register

Richard Register is the Founder of the International Ecocity Conference Series and the NGO, Ecocity Builders. He has authored several books including Another Beginning, 1978; Ecocity Berkeley – Building Cities for a Healthy Future, 1987; Ecocities – Rebuilding Cities in Balance with Nature, 2006; World Rescue – an Economics Built on what We Build, 2016; and Ecocities Illustrated, 2016.
He is a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science (based in India), International Consultant, Chinese Society for Urban Studies, Eco-Cities Planning and Construction Center, Beijing and a frequent international speaker hosted in 36 countries and all continents but Antarctica by now, 26 trips to China, 15 to Korea, 5 to Australia, Canada, Brazil, Italy and Austria and more and counting.
His hands-on local work includes creek daylighting projects (bringing the waters up from buried concrete culverts), street orchards, solar greenhouses and living roofs in Berkeley, California and nearby communities, along with several energy and land use ordinances in the area.
